Meta AI chatbot for selected users of WhatsApp is available. How it operates?

Meta has devoted considerable effort to refining its AI model over an extended period. With the emergence of new Meta AI chatbot capabilities from Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, integrated across various services, Meta has made the decision to leverage AI prowess across its suite of products, spanning from Facebook and Instagram to its instant messaging platform, WhatsApp.

During Meta Connect 2023, Meta unveiled plans to integrate a Meta AI chatbot into WhatsApp, initially rolling it out to a limited audience in the US. Now, in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, users can find a new shortcut button enabling direct access to this AI chatbot, streamlining the process without the need to navigate through conversation lists, as reported by WABetaInfo.

This newly introduced AI chatbot button resides in WhatsApp’s ‘Chats’ section, positioned atop the ‘New Chat’ button. Its primary function is to simplify user interaction, allowing quick access to the AI chatbot for queries, customer service, appointment scheduling, and reservations.

Meta AI chatbot launched at event by Meta

Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta’s latest AI chatbot at the event, combining recent advancements in large language models with the robust Llama 2 model. The chatbot’s versatility spans trip planning, entertainment with jokes, conflict resolution in group chats, and acting as an informative resource akin to ChatGPT, Bard, or Bing.

Meta collaborated with Microsoft’s Bing Chat to enhance the chatbot’s capability in delivering real-time online results. Additionally, Meta’s AI helper, similar to text-to-image generators like MidJourney and Bing Image Creator, enables users to create lifelike images from scratch using a simple ‘/imagine’ command, all free of charge.

Simultaneously, WhatsApp is introducing a feature allowing users to filter and display status updates in a vertical list, easing the process for users uninterested in specific channels to mute status updates without navigating through separate menus, according to WABetaInfo.

The functionality of Meta AI chatbot is available to Android beta testers on version 2.23.24.11, offering a ‘See all’ option that promptly presents a vertical list of status changes. Some beta users can access four filters to categorize updates systematically, providing a streamlined way to catch up on all their contacts’ status updates.
