Google Introduces SGE (Search Generative Experience) – An AI-Powered Search Innovation for India and Japan.
Google is unveiling its innovative Search Generative Experience (SGE), a groundbreaking AI-driven search encounter, in India and Japan. This extraordinary capability will be accessible through Google’s Search Labs, promising users an intuitive and captivating search journey akin to conversing with artificial intelligence.
SGE, initially introduced at Google’s I/O Developer conference earlier this year, empowers users to pose questions to Google on various subjects and receive insightful responses, reminiscent of engaging with an AI chatbot like ChatGPT. This remarkable feature has continuously evolved, expanding its horizons to cover diverse content categories, including movies, images, local information, travel recommendations, and even coding-related queries.
In a bid to maximize the interactive potential of AI-driven conversations, Google has recently ventured into incorporating AI-generated responses within advertisements.
To ensure a personalized touch for these new regions, Google is customizing the SGE service. In Japan, users can engage with generative AI in their native language. Meanwhile, in the Indian subcontinent, SGE will support both English and Hindi, with a convenient language selector facilitating seamless transitions between the two. Recognizing the popularity of speech-based interactions in India, Google is also integrating voice input.
Notably, search advertisements will continue to occupy designated ad slots on the search page in both India and Japan.
In addition to these enhancements, SGE introduces a novel tool aimed at aiding users in discovering and visiting websites containing the information underlying AI-generated responses. This feature seeks to offer users a path to explore further context and information related to the AI’s knowledge.
Complementing its AI-powered search experience, Google presents SGE (Search Generative Experience), enabling users to trace the source of AI-generated information directly from the overview. Identified by a distinctive arrow symbol, this feature enables users to click and access relevant web pages with comprehensive information pertaining to their search queries.
Initially, this functionality will be rolled out in the United States, with plans for expansion to India and Japan in the coming weeks.
Google’s research has revealed that SGE has gained significant popularity among younger users, particularly those aged 18-24. These users appreciate the conversational nature of the queries they can pose through SGE. In contrast to conventional Google searches, which predominantly revolve around entering keywords, users are increasingly inclined to ask follow-up questions and structure their requests in a more conversational and descriptive manner.
Furthermore, Google has acknowledged the value that users find in the integrated advertisements within SGE, despite not providing specific click-through rate statistics. SGE can be readily accessed through the Search Labs section of the Google application for both Android and iOS, as well as within the desktop version of Chrome.
