First thoughts on JioBook (2023): Will it be a major shift in technology?

The initial JioBook, like many first-generation devices in the computer sector, appeared to be a “work in progress” and was not the disruptor everyone expected. Reliance Retail, on the other hand, has released its second JioBook, dubbed “India’s first learning laptop” and priced at Rs 16,499. 

The laptop looks to be as light as a feather in terms of design, weighing only 990 gms. It features a blue matte finish that is similar to Apple in many ways. It also has a solid grip, making it practical. It communicates through a 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB, and HDMI connectors. 

JioBook (2023) includes an infinite keyboard with a large trackpad. For the uninitiated, an infinity keyboard means that the keys reach all the way to the end of the screen. With this design aspect, the laptop seems to be a high-end product. It includes an infinite keyboard.

JioBian has a unique marketing feature since it allows users to learn coding by supporting languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, and Pearl. The JioTV app also has a lot of instructional programming. You may utilize the video conferencing tool to connect with someone in another area of the world and study or upskill. It is exactly the “learning element” that comes into play, which may appeal to many first-time purchasers in smaller towns and villages.

This gadget has an HD camera as well as stereo speakers. I don’t believe the stereo speakers or camera are very noteworthy, but they do the job for the price. When using JioMeet or Zoom, the gadget runs admirably.

Battery and Processor:

Reliance Jio says that the laptop has an 8-hour battery life, however this has yet to be verified, and we will provide an update on this claim in our entire review. The all-new JioBook is driven by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT 8788 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256 GB via the microSD card. The JioBook’s screen is an anti-glare 11.3-inch HD display. You seem to be using an outdated smartphone, therefore we think they may have done better in terms of brightness. But on the other hand, we’re not grumbling at this pricing. I think it’s sufficient for connecting to the internet and seeing basic content.

It is very unexpected that the user experience is flawless on the new JioBook given that JioOS, which is built on Android 11, doesn’t exhibit any latency or stuttering when carrying out routine chores. 

When you insert your Jio 4G SIM into the device’s SIM slot, you are immediately connected. If you’re on the go and don’t have a spare SIM for the JioBook, you can alternatively connect to a hotspot. 

In India, the JioBook costs Rs 16,499 at launch. Just to be clear. The JioBook (2023) is a gadget for the general public—for those who are not or just partially connected to the internet. We would want to say that this gadget is a step in the right way in terms of making tech and linking the under-connected.
